Nicole Farhi Spring / Summer 2013

Framed in the opulent backdrop of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Nicole Farhi’s SS2013 collection simply dazzled…  illuminating a golden path for Joanne Sykes formerly of Aquascutum to follow as the new creative director next season.

Minimal sophistication revealed the real show stopper of the collection. Tracing direct inspiration from Edward Burtynsky’s photo’s of the marble mountains of Carrara, Italy – the depth of field came from crisp white shift dresses with asymmetric pleating, to perfectly pleated trousers, trench coats and calf length skirts with the ice thawing to reveal peeks of grey stone and a gentle palette of peach and beige to bring the foreground of the collection into focus.

A particular highlight was the weightless long sleeved pleated dress which papier-mâché effect seeming to recreate the rocks core, blending shades of grey to peach belted at the waist to cut a feminine floaty shape.

The Fashion editors favourite, a calm mix of understated simplicity, brilliant tailoring and sophisticated fabric will be a tough legacy to mastermind, but we are sure Sykes will measure up to the sartorial challenge.
