Fred Butler opened her pop up store speedily in Seven Dials for the duration of London Fashion Week, treating guests to culinary pop art cake sculptures by Pomp De Frank to accompany her AW13 collection ‘Wham Bam, Tangram Famalam.’
Inspired by the strong geometric shapes of the ancient Chinese tangram puzzles and her love of the ‘spectro-magnificient’, Fred’s AW13 collection debuts a more technology led direction, printing bright angular tessellated covers for ipads, laptops and iphone cases.
Not one to stray far from her blindingly bright rainbow hues, walls were plastered in true pop art format, splicing Picasso style shapes defined by thick black lines, which was mirrored in Fred’s choice of abstract prints for the evening.
Her shoe collaboration with Rosy Nicholas dubbed ‘cosmic platforms’ was a standout; chunky heels were a pastel palette of drumstick lolly pink and bubblegum blue, adorned with a sprinkling of shimmering shards of triangular perspex at the toe.
As well as the very wearable cut out block-colour perspex adorned beanies co-designed by young milliner Keely Hunter, Fred had splashed her geometric rainbow of designs over scarves, necklaces, keyrings, nails, cards and hats.
A fashion alumnus refreshingly graduating from Brighton University, it’s easy to see from this pop-up flash why her designs have attracted the most sartorially savvy of pop culture, from Lady GaGa to Nicki Minaj and Beth Ditto, Miss Butler is definitely one for the fashion-fun hearted.
